On a normal day, for any other event, I could find a needle in a hay-stack, but looking for "THE" dress was no small feat because "THE" dress was actually, "THE" dresses. I needed a dress to wear for our morning nuptials and a dress to wear for the evening dinner reception. The pressure was on.
The only idea that was in my head--Non-traditional. There was no need to wear white (haha), but it was an option. What followed this non-traditional path was the style or era that I wanted-- 50s! I am no stranger to curves and I am not on the "smalls" team...
I easily found a white gown from asos.com (which was under $200), but finding the reception dress was a much greater task (I'm backwards, huh?). I continued to put off shopping for a dress up until 5 five days before my nuptials were to be exchanged!! I finally stopped into one of my favourite vintage boutiques, Shareen's; which is a girly-girl's playground.
Every time I go into Shareen's, I am always greeted by up-beat shop girls who love to play dress up as much I do. After embarking into a wonderland of dresses, I made sure to touch every single item in the store. At the beginning of my dress hunt I started with what I wanted-- 50s prom dresses. Unfortunately, all of these dresses had been taken in to fit the liking of Kate Moss and friends... so we'll say I immediately began to panic.
After 15 pain-staking minutes of all "NOs", I stumbled into a floral maybe with bardot shoulders. I ran across two more maybes and five minutes later... I was trying her on. As soon as I put her on... I knew that she was mine.
In that dress... I had dinner for the first time as a wife.
